Back in the Saddle

I'm back in the Valley and ready to get down to business again. A reminder that the film club meets tomorrow night at 7pm. We'll be looking at documentary filmmaking and how it converts to feature film. The folks that saw Napolean Dynamite will share their thoughts. There have been several requests to discuss story development so we're going to have an exercise in that. We'll then look at directing that action into film. On the technical side, we'll begin the cinematography discussion with tape formats and compression.

Pauline Doc Moving Forward

Success! I've been able to reach the Oklahoma scholar on Pauline and he's agreed to be interviewed on camera for the documentary!! Woo - whooo! Now, I'm going looking for mo'money! This may have been the "Winter of My Discontent" but it looks like Summer is just the opposite.

Miramax and Money

Gooch, where the heck have you been? MIA since the start of class. Remember there is NO CLASS next week because I have a conference. So class again on the 15th.

Kudos today to Montesa who hooked me up with a fellow who used to be in distribution with Miramax. Now, here's the GREAT news about that ... he's going to come talk to class about how to get money to make your film. He's also going to do a workshop in September about Finance and Distribution for the Independent Filmmaker. I spent a good amount of time with him today and was impressed with his pragmatic, practical, pithy advice. He cuts right to the heart of the deal. He said he'd consider consulting on "interesting projects." Could be some of the best money you'll ever spend.
