Kohl ... the other Cindy posted the wonderful comments about your film. (I showed it in class so many folks have seen it.) I think many film festivals are a sham. Even festivals like Sundance are *rumored* to accept films based on many things other than the merit of the film (like who produced it, who directed it, who might have a connection to someone on the staff, who might have been chosen in the past). Likewise, many screenwriting competitions are a sham as well. They're designed largely to generate nice incomes using entry fees. This is why it might be wiser to focus one's efforts on producing a marketable product rather than doing the festival circuit. What do you'all think?
